Meet the Winter Clinic Staff Gavin Oldham - Head Men's Soccer Coach - University of Northwestern Ohio The University of Northwestern Ohio has secured their first leader of their men's soccer team as Gavin Oldham has been named the first soccer coach at UNOH. Oldham, a former National Champion of Lindsey Wilson College as a player and assistant coach, brings a vast knowledge of coaching experience to UNOH and will look to build the program to an elite status. Coach Oldham spent seven seasons as the head assistant men's soccer coach and head junior varsity coach at Lindsey Wilson College. Oldham joined the Blue Raider men's soccer staff in 2004 as a graduate assistant after his stellar four-year career as a Blue Raider defender. In 2005, Oldham began his duties as lead assistant. That season, Oldham helped lead the Blue Raiders to the NAIA National Championship. In his seven seasons as assistant, the Blue Raiders have won or shared six straight Mid-South Conference regular season and tournament titles and appeared in seven NAIA National Tournaments. Oldham's assistant coaching record was 128-24-5 while at Lindsey Wilson. In 2009, Oldham helped the Blue Raiders to the program's eighth NAIA National Championship -- his fourth title with Lindsey Wilson. As a student-athlete, Oldham helped Lindsey Wilson to a pair of national championships (2000 and 2001) and a 79-10-1 overall record. Oldham was chosen as the 2001 Most Valuable Player during the NAIA National Tournament where Lindsey Wilson outscored their opponents 22-4 in four matches. Oldham was a two-time All-American and a three-time all-conference selection. The Racers will play their first competitive season in the fall of 2012. Oldham and his wife, Danielle, have one son, Jayce and twin daughters, Ella and Isla. Alex Van der Sluijs - Head Men's and Women's Soccer Coach - Defiance College Alex Van der Sluijs begins his second season as the men’s and women’s soccer coach for Defiance College in 2011. Van der Sluijs is in the process of rebuilding the program and looks to improve upon the records of both the men’s and women’s teams. Van der Sluijs also served as a graduate assistant for Defiance during the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Prior to his career at Defiance, Van der Sluijs attended Wilmington College, where he was a three-year starter on the men’s soccer team. The two-time Ohio Athletic Conference Forward of the Year earned First Team All-OAC and All-Great Lakes Region honors three times, after spending one season as a member of the Wright State program. Van der Slujis has also played professionally for the Cincinnati Kings in 2007 and the Dayton Dutch Lions in 2010. Van der Sluijs spent the 2007 season as an assistant coach for Wilmington, while also having served as a coach and trainer for the Lakota United Soccer Club, Thunder United Soccer Club and Midwest Soccer Academy. Brent Ridenour - Head Men's Soccer Coach - Ohio Northern University Brent Ridenour is in his 14th season at the helm of the Ohio Northern men’s soccer program. The Springfield, Ohio, native has helped establish the Polar Bears as a successful program regionally and nationally as the program comes off its fourth straight NCAA tournament appearance. During his tenure as head coach, ONU has been nationally-ranked in 2000, 2002, 2006-09 and 2011 including his highest ranking as No. 4 in 2011.In 2011, Ridenour led Northern to an OAC regular season and tournament championship with a 10-0-1 record against conference opponents. Under his tutelage, the ONU program has reached the OAC Tournament ten times in the past 13 seasons, earned five OAC regular season championships and four conference tournament championships. In 2010, Ridenour became the winningest coach in the men’s soccer history with a 3-1 win at Muskingum. His overall coaching record stands at 194-87-26. Ridenour is also responsible for the Polar Bears’ appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight in 2008, and the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2011. He is a 4 time OAC Coach of the Year and was named the Great Lakes Region coach of the year in 2011. As an athlete Ridenour, a 1995 graduate of ONU, was a standout soccer and baseball player for the Polar Bears. He is ONU’s all-time career goal scorer for the men’s soccer program, scoring 56 goals in his four years. A four-time All-Conference player, Ridenour is also second in all time career points with 125. He also owned ONU’s single game and single season goals and points records until each was broken in 2004. Mark Batman - Head Women's Soccer Coach - Ohio Northern University Head coach Mark Batman is in his eighth season at the helm of the Ohio Northern women’s soccer program and is the fourth head women’s soccer coach in ONU’s history. Under his direction, ONU has made five straight appearances in the OAC Championship game and has twice won the regular season title. ONU's 16-3-2 campaign in 2011, including national ranking as high as #12, earned Batman Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year honors. Batman came to Ohio Northern after assistant coaching stints at Savannah (Ga.) Arts and Design, Dubuque (Iowa) and his alma mater, Wilmington. The Yellow Springs, Ohio, native served as assistant men’s soccer coach and assistant sports information director at Savannah A&D in 2003. From 2001-02, Batman was a graduate assistant for both the men’s and women’s soccer teams at Dubuque and served as assistant men’s soccer coach at Wilmington in 2000. In 2010, he was appointed head coach of the Dayton Dutch Lions FC women’s team. The Lady Dutch Lions are a member of the United Soccer League’s (USL) W-League, the second highest women’s league in the United States and Canada. He also holds an NSCAA Premier Diploma and is a Region II Olympic Development Training Staff member. As a student-athlete, Batman was two-time All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honoree at Wilmington, earning First Team kudos in his sophomore and junior seasons. He was also selected First Team All-Great Lakes Region and the team’s MVP as a senior in 1999. Batman helped his team to two Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament and a national ranking as high as No. 12. Aaron Collins - Goalkeeper Trainer - Ohio Northern University The Goalkeeper trainer at Ohio Northern University, Aaron Collins has been involved in high level club and college soccer his entire career. Aaron grew up playing for Team Dayton SC until he joined Ohio Thunder SC in high school and helped lead them to 5 Ohio South State Cup titles, a Regional Championship and a National Runner-Up. He also participated and played for ODP Ohio South State team for 6 years. Aaron started his college career at The University of Cincinnati before transferring to Ohio Northern where he won two conference titles and helped lead the team to the NCAA Elite 8. Aaron joined the Ohio Extreme SC staff in 2009 and serves as the Director of Goalkeeping and the Director of Ohio Extreme Juniors for the club. Jason Diley - Assistant Men's Soccer Coach - Ohio Northern University An assistant coach for Ohio Northern University, Diley is also the Director of Soccer Operations for Ohio Extreme SC. Diley was also a four-year varsity letterwinner for ONU from 1999-2002. In his senior campaign, Diley was an Academic All-OAC and Academic All-District selection, and was a member of the 2000 conference championship squad. A USSF Nationally licensed coach, he began his career at one of the top youth clubs in the southeast, training elite-level youth with North Meck Soccer Club in Cornelius, NC. He also served as the Director of Adult Leagues and the Director of the Adidas College Combine Camp with North Meck during his tenure with the club. He began his coaching career there in 2005. Diley Returned to ONU in 2010 and has been a part of a staff that led the Polar Bears to consecutive OAC tournament championships, a NCAA Sweet 16 appearance in 2011, and the program's highest ever national ranking. He works closely with ONU's defensive core - who broke a school record with 15 shutouts in the 2011 season. Jenny Vincent - Assistant Women's Soccer Coach - Ohio Northern University Jenny Vincent is in her second year as assistant women’s soccer coach at Ohio Northern, and also serves as a Head Coach with Ohio Extreme Soccer Club. Vincent graduated from Ohio Northern in 2007 and was a four-year member of the Polar Bear women’s soccer team during her undergraduate career. She was also a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative and an athletic training student, working with several Ohio Northern teams. Vincent also earned a coaching certificate from her alma mater. Vincent is a certified athletic trainer and finished a graduate assistantship at Boston University, earning her master’s degree in sport psychology. During her time as a BU graduate assistant, she worked with BU’s swimming and diving, tennis, lacrosse and crew teams. The Germantown, Ohio, native now resides in Ada. |
